… because It’s all about the ARTS
in Southern and Eastern Kentucky
The Arts & Culture Outreach Program is an extensive program developed by The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Kentucky, designed to increase awareness of and access to arts and cultural activities throughout The Center’s 42-county service region. Through this program, The Center is serving as a proactive leader in the enhancement, growth and development of all facets of arts and culture throughout Southern and Eastern Kentucky.
The overall goal of the program is to ensure that each of the over 900,000 residents of our service area has access to artistic and culturally significant activities, events, products, performances and educational experiences. Working through this program to achieve this goal, The Center establishes and maintains a working relationship with arts organizations, educational institutions, and other arts resources within The Center’s region as well as statewide and nationally, serving as a facilitator among these groups and as a provider of services, resources and educational opportunities. Providing professional development workshops on arts-related, nonprofit and organizational topics; bringing together crafts co-ops and groups from around the region to facilitate networking opportunities; participating with and attending meetings of local, area and regional arts councils and arts organizations; working with schools to increase educational arts programming and activities; and working with state agencies as a representative of arts groups throughout the region are just a few of the numerous ways The Center is working to “grow” arts and culture within its region, and beyond.
