Andrew Leonard, Solo Guitarist, Performing and Recording Artist:

Session Title:  Acting as Your Own Agent

Acting as his own booking agent and publicist, Andrew has arranged and promoted his performances throughout the country.  He has given his “Creating A Career As A Performer” lectures and workshops nationally.  Andrew’s topics will include using a press kit effectively, writing cover letters, preparing press releases, negotiating, and deciding what concerts to pursue based on understanding how a presenter views your press kit.  Andrew is also on the faculty of the University of Kentucky’s School of Music.

Beau Haddock, Media & Public Relations Director, Kentucky Arts Council:

Session Title: Promoting Your Music

Beau Haddock, originator of the popular folk-rock group, The Little River Band, will share his experiences as a professional musician to help you plan to promote your music locally, regionally, nationally and internationally! Topics will include promoting CDs, getting airtime, working with a band, and touring.

Angelyn DeBord, Storyteller, Playwright, Director and Workshop Leader:

Session Title:  Building on Your Strengths

This session will lead you through steps to identify and build on your strengths as a performing artist.  You will have an opportunity to conceptualize and share your ideal working situation. You will learn to identify the communication skills you have and consider how these can be shared and shaped toward building your ideal career.  Each participant will have an opportunity to share a segment of his/her work and get feedback!

Octavia Sexton, Storyteller, Literary Artist, and Artist Educator:

Session Title: Storytelling as a Teaching Tool

In this workshop you will gain insights into bridging the gap between storytelling as an art form and storytelling as a teaching tool; working as a teaching artist versus festival performer; where to look for work; and ideas and venues for promoting youth storytelling.

Darla Jackson, Dancer, Dance Instructor, and Choreographer:

Session Title: Finding Your Niche

Darla Jackson has performed solo and as part of a clogging group throughout the southeast.  She has visited many schools as a performer and dance instructor. This PD will help you build promotional tools to help you as an artist. Different strategies will be introduced such as performances, teaching, presentations, school assemblies, etc. Participants will focus on what makes them unique and sets them apart from other artists.

Lora Jane Benedict, Dancer, Dance Instructor, and Choreographer:

Session Title: Inspiring Youth

As director of Pointe Of Joy Performing Arts School in Paintsville, Lora Jane will share the rewards and challenges of running a dance studio and working as a consultant and choreographer.

May 17th - Developming a Regional Theatre Network in East Kentucky - Somerset

You are invited to participate in an exciting effort to build a network of community theatres in Kentucky.  We hope to develop opportunities for community theatre groups to perform in one another's communities and to share resources and ideas.  We will discuss how such a network might be structured and how we might obtain funding for the network through a grant application to the National Endowment for the Arts.
