Lindsey Wilson College offers four-year scholarships to Rogers Scholars graduates
SOMERSET, KY The Center for Rural Development announced on April 18, 2005 that participants of the Rogers Scholars program now have a great new financial aid opportunity. Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia has partnered with The Center to provide full tuition scholarships to all Rogers Scholars program graduates who earn a score of 24 or better on the American College Test (ACT). Those that score below a 24 will receive a half tuition scholarship.
Lindsey Wilson College
We are excited about this program because we know the caliber of students this program attracts, said Lindsey Wilson College President, William T. Luckey Jr. This is a major investment for our college, and it is a good investment because it will give Lindsey Wilson the opportunity to bring 60 students from 42 Kentucky counties to our campus as college students. More importantly, it will help all of Kentucky because we will have a better chance of keeping our best and brightest young people in our commonwealth after college.

This is exactly the type of inspired leadership we are talking about when we ask people to step up and become leaders in the region, said Lonnie Lawson, President and CEO of The Center for Rural Development. The Lindsey Wilson College Board of Trustees and President Luckey deserve to be recognized and applauded for this important commitment to these future leaders of our region.

The value of a one-year, full-tuition scholarship at Lindsey Wilson will be $13,584 for the 2005-2006 school year. The four-year value of a single scholarship exceeds $54,000. Lindsey Wilson is the first college to offer such scholarships to Roger Scholars and it is hoped that others will follow their example.

The Rogers Scholars program was founded in 1998 by U.S. Congressman Harold Hal Rogers (KY-05) with the goal that no young person will need to leave home to find his or her future. This intensive one week summer session for rising high school juniors from 42 counties in Southern and Eastern Kentucky emphasizes technological skills development and fosters an entrepreneurial spirit, leadership skills and commitment to rural Kentucky. Rogers Scholars interact with state and national leaders and work with quality instructors to focus on leadership, technology, entrepreneurship and community service.
